If your car is front wheel drive then it is probably the CV joints (constant velocity joints) in the axles. These joints allow the axle to turn the wheel and also flex when you hit a bump or are turning the steering. That is the most common cause. When the CV joints get worn out they clunk as the axle rotate especially when turning at slow speeds. Otherwise it might be a worn suspension bushing or a worn ball joint in the steering mechanism or something just popped loose. To see if your CV joints are most likely the issue, you can look under the car for the axles that connects the transmission to the wheels. The axles have rubber covers over the CV joints to keep the grease in and the dirt out. Usually on older cars these rubber covers have holes, or are torn or are completely destroyed. Once dirt gets inside this wears down the joint causing the clunking noise. Easiest way to fix is to swap out the whole axle with new or reconditioned one.
